It's been a tough few months and that's why I haven't been able to make my classic monthly list. I've made a resolution that this will change in 2024 and I will resume the immense emotion that I get from watching movies and capturing them, because when I lack that I feel like I'm fading away. Happy New Year to everyone and thanks for still being there all this time ♥

Remember that bit in Men at Arms when we discover Vimes is giving away half of his pay to widows and orphans? (yes. You do. We all do. Why am I even asking) So on the list of people Vimes is giving money to is Mrs Scurrick and now I am thinking.

We know he had a friend called Iffy Scurrick who made him join the Watch, for lunch and all that. So they are presumably around the same age. And I always assumed Mrs Scurrick was his wife, but if they are around the same age, why would Vimes adress his friend's wife so formally? Why not use her first name?

So, solutions

He doesn't. When face-to-face, he adresses her by her first name, but he likes having it done proper on paper

Vimes has no idea how to act around women and is going for the safe option. Mrs Scurrick finds this both hilarious and cute and lets him call her Mrs Scurrick. No need do distress and/or confuse him. Look at him, he's already depressed

Being raised primarily by women resulted in him getting psychic damage level 50 anytime he's not respectful to them
